THE CANADIAN COLLECTION

Program objectives | Results | To apply

At Wildlife Preservation Canada, we're doing everything we can to save species on the brink of extinction - species that are often only one or two years away from disappearing forever. We're also looking down the road. Saving species in Canada is not going to get easier, so we're working hard to train and develop as many bright young minds as possible and build a growing community of expert conservation biologists.

Since 1995, our Canadian Collection grants program has supported 5 PhD. and 10 MSc candidates in their thesis research. Many of the research projects we've supported have developed into important field projects at WPC, a boon for both our young zoologists and more than a dozen endangered species.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

  • to fund applied field research to save endangered Canadian species
  • to fund young graduate students in this work to give them invaluable field experience that's not available through traditional academic studies

    RESULTS
WPC has made many small grants through the Canadian Collection to projects on the Piping Plover, Swift Fox, Burrowing Owl and Spiny Softshell Turtle. This small investment multiplies itself. The burrowing owl and swift fox programs, for instance, have grown considerably into major field projects.

    TO APPLY
We believe in investing in the people who have shown their dedication to the cause, and providing them with the tools they need to fight for endangered animals.
